“You’re beautiful because God is beauty and He lives in you” [Unknown]

A year ago I discovered this quote on a blog post. It really caught my attention in that I’ve always equated beauty to how you look on the outside. I never included God in the equation. This was definitely an eye-opener.

Over the years we have allowed the world’s definition of beauty shape our mindset and govern the way we view ourselves. The world infiltrates our mind by advertising products such as bleaching creams, more make-up options and hair extension to edge our appearance. We spend so much time taking care of our outer appearance that we neglect our inner self.

1 Peter 3:4-5 states “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

In the above scripture Peter was speaking to the women in the church about their focus. They believed that outward beauty is the only thing that is essential to a woman’s development. But what would it profit a woman to have it altogether outwardly but on the inside she’s bitter, insecure, harboring unforgiveness, brawling and filled with anger?

What you don’t realize is that eventually what is going on in your hearts would begin to seep out into your everyday lives. Through your interaction with people and your behavior etc.

It’s not all just to be concerned about fancy hairstyles, make- up and beautiful clothes as Peter said, these things are only accessories. We need to take time and immerse into God’s Word to develop our inner self. The more you spend time in the Word, God would begin to show you those areas in your life where you need to grow and develop.

Ladies I want to encourage you to look inwards and see the true beauty that God have created.
